TA CHEVELURE D'ORANGES

Ta chevelure d'oranges dans le vide du monde,
Dans le vide des vitres lourdes de silence
Et d'ombre où mes mains nues cherchent tous tes reflets.

La forme de ton coeur est chimérique
Et ton amour ressemble à mon désir perdu.
O soupir d'ambre, rêves, regards.

Mais tu n'as pas toujours été avec moi. Ma mémoire

his breath wind, his deed the sky and his dream the sea. It is charism or
nothingness, joy, sorrow, life, death; and love and tenderness
break the heavy panes of silence.



GIUSEPPE AJMONE was born at Carpignano on 17th February 1923. In 1941, he moved to Milan after completing his classical studies at the Ginnasio (High School) Carlo Alberto of Novara. At the Brera Academy he attended the courses held by Achille Funi and Carlo Carrà. He soon began exhibiting and at the same time wrote art criticism. In 1944 Ajmone was a member of the editorial staff of the newspaper 'Numero', from 1946 to 1948 on the staff of 'Pittura', and from 1960 to 1962 on the staff of the review 'Quaderni milanesi'. He has held continuous series of highly successful personal exhibitions from the time of his first one, organized for him in 1948 by the 'Bottega d'Arte' of Novara, right up to the present day. The following might be mentioned: at the 'Bussola' of Turin (1952); 'Il Milione' of Milan (1954); the 'Obelisco' of Rome (1956); the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburg (1957); the C.W. Vincent Smith Art Museum of Springfield, Mass.; the University of Georgia of Athens Ga. (both in 1958); the Grace Borgenicht Gallery of New York (1959); the XXXI Biennale of Venice (1962, and he also exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1948, 1950, 1952, and 1958); the Galleria Marino of Locarno (1964); etc. In the meantime, he collaborated at the 'Triennale' of Milan as a member of the Technical Committee for the IX Exhibition and later as a member of the Center of Studies. He also participated in Collective International exhibitions such as the Pittsburg International and the Biennali of San Paulo of Brazil. His graphic works are numerous: "Ten etchings for the poems of Cesare Pavese", Einaudi, 1947; a linoleograph which illustrates, together with engravings by eight other artists, "Man of my time" by Salvatore Quasimodo, Verona Editions, 1963; a lithograph for "Woman in thirty three Venetian proverbs", Verona Editions, 1965; dozens of lithographs for the Spirale Editions of Milan, and hundreds of drawings. Ajmone's works are to be found not only in Italian public galleries of Modern Art, at Como, lLa Spezia, Gallarate, Campione d'Italia, Venice, Turin, Rome, Milan etc., but also the Museum of Arts of Toledo (Ohio), the Brooklin Museum of New York, the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro, the Tate Gallery of London etc. The artist divides his time between Milan and Romagnano Sesia.
